Bass finished the dash in 22.63 seconds, an unprecedented feat ever achieved by a Gambian track and field athlete. Gina is now the most decorated Gambian track and field athlete. Wurrie Njadoe, a promising young Gambian athlete finished fourth in the finals.

Njie picked up silver, an improvement on Sheikh Tijan Faye’s bronze at the Glasgow games in 1970.Meanwhile, the Gambia beach volleyball came close to winning silverware when they reached the quarter-final stage. Gambia’s top pair Sainey Jawo and Mbye Babou Jarra finished 5th at the commonwealth games after losing 2-1 to hosts England.Sprint sensation Gina Bass improved on her previous appearance at the games by getting to the finals of the women’s 200m. Bass finished 5th despite disruptions to her preparations for the games. The athlete missed the women’s 100m race after a delay in securing a visa.The Gambia’s men's relay team also made it to the finals of the 4x100m relay for the first time. Para sport Modou Gamo, had the best lifetime achievement in his career, as he finished fourth in Para powerlifting. The Gambia failed at the first hurdle in both swimming and boxing.

Kharangne made the promise as the duo face-off for the final time on Monday on Walf TV, ahead of their much-anticipated bout. The encounter is slated for Sunday 14 August 2022, at Arena National in Dakar, Senegal organized by Jam Promotion.In what was a heated exchange of words, Bebe Kharangne promised to beat his Senegalese challenger in Sunday's bout."I am ready in all aspects both physically and mentally. I'm more powerful and skillful than you" Kharangne told Sarr. The Senegalese described the Gambian as 'talkative' and vowed to deal with him on Sunday.Meanwhile, the Daru Bussumbala-based wrestler appealed for help for his young Gambian fans to travel to support him in Dakar. The Gambia national Olympic committee reacted to some scathing criticisms, in a press release, saying it completed the visa application process in time to obtain the necessary travel clearance and that the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Organizing Committee had taken over the processing of the applications. The African champion who competed in the last world championship is one of The Gambia’s medal hopefuls. Meanwhile, the volleyball team started their campaign for a medal by beating St. Kitts and Nevis by two sets to zero. Boxer Foday Badgie couldn't pass through to the next round after losing in split to a South African Boxer.

A press release issued by the federation says nomination forms are ready for collection by aspiring candidates at the GFF head office. The deadline for submission is Thursday 28th July 2022. Aspiring candidates will be announced on the 4th of August and the final list of candidates will be published on the 13th of August 2022.

A statement on its Facebook page indicates that government will provide 7.5 million Dalasis towards the team’s budget.The Gambia will participate in the Birmingham and Islamic Games which commences from 28th July to 8th August and 9th to 18th August 2022 respectively. Twenty-one athletes from the Gambia are expected to take part in athletics, swimming, judo, boxing, beach volleyball, Para-power lifting, and wheelchair basketball 3×3. Twenty-nine athletes will represent the Gambian at the Islamic Games in athletics, swimming, taekwondo, judo, basketball 3×3, Para-athletics, and Para-table tennis.

The Gambian forward signed a two-year deal on Tuesday 5th July 2022 a move that ended a three-season spell with Sporting Club De Huelva. Villarreal CF said in a statement that it has reached an agreement with Fatou Kanteh until 2024. Kanteh Cham made her debut against Sierra Leone at the Africa Women's Cup of Nations Qualifiers in Banjul in 2021. The Gambian was on the score sheet in a one-all draw against the visitors.
