The Gambia participates in world volleyball championship

The Gambia men's beach volleyball team will leave on Wednesday for Rome for the global championship. The Gambia is in Pool A where they play against host Italy, Argentina, and world champions in Brazil.

    Gambia gets nod in four categories of CAF 2022 Awards

    The Gambia is nominated in four categories for the CAF 2022 Awards. A statement on the GFF social media handle indicates that the Scorpions are nominated for the National Team of the Year. National team coach Tom Saintfiet is nominated for the Coach of the Year. Musa Barrow and James Gomez have also been nominated for the Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year categories respectively.

    GFF ELECTIONS SET FOR AUGUST 27th 2022

    The vice-chair of the Gambia Football Federation electoral committeeSaikou B. Jarju has declared that the GFF presidential elections will take place on the 27th of August 2022 at a venue to be disclosed in due time.Mr. Jarju also stated that nominations will open on the 21st of July 2022 and close on July 28th and announcements of the candidates will be made on the 4th of August 2022. This will be followed by an announcement of the final list of eligible candidates on the 13th of August 2022.

    Foreign based Gambian athletes gear up for the commonwealth and Islamic games in Birmingham

    Sengan Jobe, a 22-year-old sprinter will compete in the Commonwealth and Islamic Games this year. Jobe who is based in France, represented the Gambia at both youth and senior levels. He will be looking for a medal in his first major global event. US-based Gambian sprinter Momodou Sey is also ready for his first major global competition in the Commonwealth and Islamic Games. Sey has represented the Gambia at the African youth championship Mauritius 2015, African junior championships Algeria 2017, and All African Games in Morroco in 2019Twety-four-year-old Wurrie Njadoe, a US-based Gambian sprinter, will be sprinting for The Gambia for the first time at the Commonwealth and Islamic Games. Wurrie expressed delight at having the opportunity to represent her country of birth and promised to give it her best.

    GFF electoral committee posed to make important announcements

    The Electoral Committee of The Gambia Football Federation set up to arbitrate in the next GFF elections will speak to journalists at a press briefing on Thursday 30th June 2022 at GFF head office. A statement from its secretary Lamin Jassey who is also the General Secretary of GFF says matters relating to the 2022 Elective Congress, scheduled for August of this year will be discussed. The statement also indicated that very important announcements would be made. The Electoral Committee was elected in the last Annual General Meeting held in December of 2021.

    Boy Nyang prevails over Boy Jola in Stunning Grand Combat Bout

    Boy Nyang knocked out Boy Jola in the grand combat to claim the Sherrif Sarr flag. The event was organised by Amna Si Wala Promotion.The much talked about bout held at the Serekunda West Mini Stadium lasted under 4 minutes. Boy Nyang of Club Serekunda Mbolo unleashed a heavy loaded right hand punch that landed on Boy Jola sending the Jabang United wrestler to ground. The shocking blow left many wrestling pundits wondering how it happened. In the build up to the bout many tipped Boy Jola as favorite because of the big difference in size, height and mass.  Boy Nyang defied all odds in defeating Boy Jola.In the earlier bouts, Gaindeh Geuche of Tysinger Family defeated Sampi of Tallinding Japoo through warning, Bebe Chart of Club Sukutankulu wrestle down Tik Tok of Tallinding United, Bebe Chart of Paradise Mbolo won through warning against AK of Club Jeff Jel, Bebe Cash of Club Mara won through warning against Rasta of Yundum Mbolo while Yareh of Serekunda Mbolo defeated Kargo of Brikama Mbolo before Semil of Ebo Town Mbolo won Barmol of Club Yanda Mbaye through warning to cap off the freestyle wrestling bouts.Elsewhere, in wrestling with boxing boxing, Dolf of Club Jabang Mbolo and Gui Gi of Club Sanchaba Ham Sa Chossan fought in an incredible bout that on numerous occasions got fans on their feet clapping in excitement. However, the bout ended prematurely when Dolf dislocated his shoulder during the intense bout forcing the referee to declare Gui Gi as the winner in accordance with the rules.Meanwhile, in the special combat, Latjorr of Bundung Nusrat was declared the winner following the disqualification of Harr Yala of Club Kerr Serign Mbolo after the latter punched the former several times during their pre-bout preparations.

    GWA Concludes Training for Thirty Wrestlers, Referees

    Gambia Wrestling Association, wrapped up a 3-day training workshop for practicing wrestlers and regional referees on Thursday 23 June 2022 at the Janjanbureh Youth Center in the Central River Region.Thirty (30) participants drawn across all regions of the country were trained on modules such as Entrepreneurship (Trade in Services of Traditional Sport as a Tourism Product and its Export Potential), Wrestling as a business career model for socio-economic development, Climate Change and traditional influence to the wrestling sport in rural communities, influence of intellectual property rights and policy to promote traditional sport, fair play refereeing and rules of the game, practical diagnostics and tactical performance and many more.Declaring the workshop closed, Project Leader Chris Addy-Nayo thank the GWA and the participants for what he described as a successful three days spent. He renewed his commitment to the full implementation of the project.President of the Gambia Wrestling Association Serign Modou Faye called on the participants to shear the knowledge gained and promised that his administration will not relent on its efforts to train wrestling more Stakeholders as possible.Professor Abdou Badji, while presenting wrestling books to the GWA said it's always an honor for him to be invited by the GWA to shear his knowledge, adding that Gambia and Senegal are one people. Mr Badji reminded the participants of the reasons they were selected by their respective regions and urged them to be practicing what they learned on their training grounds to perfect the skills.Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of his colleagues Mbye Kah a referee, thank the GWA and partners for the opportunity, adding that wrestling in the Gambia is more advanced today "any active in wrestling can attest to the fact that Gambia wrestling under the current executive have made some significant steps forward. This training will go a long way in developing our skills and knowledge of the sport," he said while promising that they will make best use of the knowledge gained.Speaking earlier, Pa Ousman Bouy the Accountant at GCCI who also double as the Financial Controller of the Project said, the fencing of the Arenas will soon commence as some areas have already handed over their complete document.At the end of the 3 days intensive training, all 30 participants were certified.The project dub "promoting investment in culture, creative arts and traditional sports to enhance resilience against climate change in local communities" is a EU funded project and is expected to build 8 to 10 wrestling arenas Nationwide, train wrestling Stakeholders and conduct a Scooping Study.

    Gambia Wrestling Association trains thirty wrestlers and referees.

    Thirty practicing wrestlers and regional referees from the seven regions of the country are undergoing a three day training at the Janjanbureh Youth Center, Central River Region. The workshop is organised by the Gambia wrestling Association. Representing the governor of CRR, Demba Ceesay in his opening speech said wrestling is a traditional sport that youth can make a living from.Project Leader Chris Addy-Nayo said the objective is to create jobs for youths and alleviate poverty through traditional sport.President of the Gambia Wrestling Association Serign Modou Faye said his association will continue to make efforts to build the capacities of its Stakeholders. He this was one of a series of trainings held in different communities. He promised to have one in every region before the project faces out.The CEO of the Janjanbureh Area Council Paa Sait Ceesay, described wrestling as a deeply rooted culture that needs to be developed. He thanked the GWA for bringing the workshop to Janjanbureh saying it shows that the association is decentralizing it activities.Alagie Abdoulie Bojang Desk Officer for Wrestling expressed delight in the training and urged the trainees to make best use of the opportunity. Mr Pa Ousman Bouy of GCCI discussed the role of his institution in the implementation of the project.Abdou Badji wrestling expert from Senegal, thanked the GWA and said he is here to share knowledge.
